In 1910, Dr. Luther H. Gulick and his wife Charlotte Vetter Gulick began to build what is today Camp Fire USA. Begun as an organization for girls in one Vermont town, Camp Fire USA today is a national organization serving girls, boys, and families. "The primary purpose of Camp Fire is to promote service to others, teamwork, and opportunities for a well-rounded life--a vivid, intense life of joy and service." Dr. Luther Gulick, founder ...A Future of Promise In keeping with the Gulicks' original goals, Camp Fire dedicates itself to one primary purpose that will endure for years to come: To provide, through a program of informal education, opportunities for youth to realize their potential and to function effectively as caring, self-directed individuals responsible to themselves and to others, and, as an organization, to seek to improve those conditions in society which affect youth.
